What is a Notary Public?

A Notary Public is an individual commissioned by the State of Indiana to serve as an impartial witness and fraud deterrent for legally significant documents such as wills, property deeds, marriage licenses, and adoption papers. Notaries defer fraud by verifying individuals’ identity and ensuring that all parties understand the contents of the documents they sign.

What is a Signing Agent?

A Notary Signing Agent or NSA is a Notary who has special training to handle loan document signings. Title companies and signing services hire NSAs to deliver loan documents to borrowers, oversee the signing, and return the documents.

Notarization Process

The notarization process is typically simple.

Step 1: Require Personal Appearance

We cannot notarize a document for your spouse or parent if they are not present.

Step 2: Notary will check over the document

We need to check the document has no blank spaces, verify who the document pertains to, and check for certificate/notarial wording.

Step 3: Carefully Identify the Signer

Personal Knowledge - This means the notary personally knows the signer

Identify Documents - Drivers licenses, passports, and other government-issued IDs

Credible identifying witness - Someone who can vouch for the signer's identity. This cannot be family or anyone who may benefit from the document.

Step 4: Record Journal Entry

A notary journal entry contains details of the notarization that are helpful in case a document or notarization is called into question.

Step 5: Complete the Notarial Certificate

This is where the notary will sign and stamp your document. If your document does not contain the appropriate certificate wording a notary may attach a separate or loose certificate. Many signers do not know what type of notarization they need - we are not allowed to pick for you. Please ask the party that is requesting the notarial document or an attorney.

As much as we may want to help, it is illegal for a notary to give advice or any assistance regarding your document.

If a signer is visually impaired we will read the document aloud.

What fees can a notary charge?

The maximum fee a Notary Public may charge is ten dollars ($10) per "individual notarization". (Indiana Code 33-42-14-1).

Notaries may bill a customer separately for incidental costs and services such as travel.

Our fees are primarily based on travel, time, and the number of documents being notarized.

What if one of your loan signing agents or mobile notaries make a mistake?

We just ask you to give us a chance to make it right. Any errors or omissions incurred by one of our professionals will be corrected free of charge and as quickly as possible.

When is payment due and what payment methods do you accept?

Does notarization mean that a document is "legal" or "true"

No. Notaries are not responsible for the accuracy or legality of the documents they notarize. Notaries certify the identity of signers. The signers are responsible for the content of the documents.

Do we arrange witnesses?

No, we do not. Please arrange for a witness if your document requires it. The witness may not be family or anyone who may benefit from the document.

Where are we located?

Columbus, Indiana
